— Dale Emery
Discover your energy
In 2013, I was introduced to the power of asking good questions and the principle of following the energy in the most fascinating way. While attending a week-long retreat for consultants, I observed that people were lining up to speak with one consultant in particular.
Since this was the first time I had attended this event, I didn’t know very many people or who this person was. I later learned his name was Dale Emery.
Curious to learn why people were lining up to talk to Dale, I wandered over to the group and listened in. Here is what I observed.
One after the other, people would describe their problem to Dale. Dale would then ask a question or two, and I would observe each person’s demeanor and energy visibly change right in front of me!
Dale was helping them solve their own problem! It was so much fun to witness. I had never seen anything quite like it before!
Later in the conference, I would get to know Dale and opened up to tell him about a challenge I was facing. A few months earlier, I had just started the 5 Minutes to Process Improvement Success interview series. Only a dozen people were included at the time, and I was unsure about its future.
Even though the interviews were getting attention and opened the door for me to be invited to this conference, I didn’t have a lot of confidence in the interviews’ value. It seemed like such a small idea amid so many other accomplished consultants whose names were well known and recognized.
Even though I wouldn’t admit how little I was feeling to anyone else, I somehow felt comfortable telling my problem to Dale.
I’ll never forget the moment. Dale asked me, “Where’s your energy?” In an instant, I was unblocked and knew exactly what to do next. I had enormous energy for doing these interviews.
I met many more amazing people and consultants at the conference, which opened the door to more interviews, including Dale Emery.
I think you would enjoy and find value in reading my interview with Dale. He shares a very funny story that let him know he had reached the pinnacle in doing what he does.

Connecting to higher energy
It’s always so interesting to connect with people when they find you on the Internet.
This past week, someone discovered a newsletter I wrote last December. They found it using Google Search while looking for more information about Norman Bodek, whose interview is in The Future of the Workplace and who I have known for some time.
The newsletter they found was Extraordinary People. I had written it to honor the life of Norman Bodek, who passed away this past year.
This person connected with me on LinkedIn, and we exchanged several messages about Norman and discovered many other common interests.
In one of the exchanges, my new connection highlighted something that caught my attention from one of Norman’s recent books, A Miraculous Life. Norman had sent me a copy of this book when it was published two years ago, but somehow I hadn’t gotten around to reading it.
After all, I had known Norman for a long time and thought I knew a lot about his miraculous life already. I was so wrong. There was so much more to Norman than I realized.
I’m sure Norman’s book will inspire many more newsletters, but there’s one passage in particular that caught my attention during my reading this week:
“Your inner consciousness is connected to a higher power always giving you the right advice, but it is very subtle and comes out spontaneously and is overwhelmed by all your thoughts. The trick is to somehow quiet your mind to learn to listen to this higher voice to distinguish it from all the mental noise.”
Reading this sage advice from Norman made me realize that my newsletters over the past year are all about helping you connect to this higher voice.
The simple question of asking, “Where’s your energy?” is a fast and effective way to stop all your thoughts and let this higher advice emerge with answers that are just right for you.
In A Miraculous Life, you’ll find 91 miracles from Norman’s life that will help you too.
As Norman says in the book’s introduction, “Each one helping me to become unstuck, and move forward and overcome my own resistances and all the obstacles, challenges, real and imaginary, placed in front of me.”
Where is your energy?
I challenge you to ask yourself this question right now in this moment:
Where is your energy?
